Creating my own brand has begun. Take a look at my website. I hope you enjoy!
24. Impact of Location on Brand Loyalty
I never really thought about how much location can determine how loyal someone is towards a certain brand. In my last post for example, Ninkasi Brewery is a local beer that people are loyal to because of location. I just overheard a kid walking by that told his friend, “Dwayne Wade is my favorite player, but if he were to play for the Lakers I wouldn’t like him anymore.” Thats what got me thinking about this. Being associated with a team or location can brand you positively or negatively. Being from Oregon I am wired to be a major Nike supporter. I think that Nike is the greatest brand ever, but some people across the country might completely disagree with me. Where you live can determine the brands that are pushed upon you. I personally think that it is impressive that brands truly do have such a major affect on our lives.
23. Ninkasi Branded Themselves
Ninkasi Brewing company has mad a name for themselves. They have created a brand that allows them to be an innovative, successful company. The beer that they sell is of higher quality. Especially for college kids to drink. What I like about Ninkasi is that they established themselves as a nice local beer that college kids will anti up the extra few dollars for because they are a cool company and everyone likes supporting a local company. On the Ninkasi website it says, “We are a company that believes in forming strong relationships in the communities where we do business, and enjoy promoting the social and cultural aspects that beer consumption has facilitated throughout human history.” I think that Ninkasi has positioned themselves perfectly for success. They understand their customer base and have an awesome relationship with the community around them. I really like the brand that they have created and hope to see them continue to succeed.
22. Brands Affect Both Parties
Today in a D1 College lacrosse game my buddy Peter Baum went off. He scored 8 goals and had 2 assists leading his team in a victory over Robert Morris. Peter plays for Colgate University. The reason that I bring this up is because I talked with Peter and he is getting contacted by lacrosse companies with sponsorship offers. He is at the point where he is considering becoming part of a brand. Peter told me, “It’s hard to commit to a brand because they try and shape who you are.” He feels unsure about committing to a company or product because it becomes part of you as well. I found that to be really interesting and just wanted to share that personal brand talk experience.
21. Ducks Are Fast
LaMichael is representing himself and the Ducks at the NFL Combine. He is using his hard work ethic and speed to make it to the big leagues. LaMichael has created a brand for himself by being a small running back that makes defensive players miss him with his speed and allusiveness. People are skeptical of wether or not he will be able to play at the next level. Does this put them at ease a little bit? Tony Pauline from SI.com said, “Several stopwatches had James running 40 times as quick as 4.42 seconds. He looked faster in drills, displaying a great combination of speed, quickness and balance in all his drills. James easily cut back against the grain in bag drills and lost no momentum. He was complimented by coaches for his pass-catching skills later in the day.” I think that with LaMichael’s speed and mind set that he is going to impress a lot of people. This is a pretty impressive video on LaMichael and him getting ready for the pro’s.
20. Brazil’s Future Olympics Creates Opportunities
The 2016 Olympic games are going to be held in Brazil. Hosting the Olympics is a huge task and an incredible opportunity especially for a thriving country such as Brazil right now. Through social media I found out that Brazil is working hard to innovate, and create future sustainability. This video maps out the layout for the 2016 Olympics in a cool and artistic way.
The layout is supposed to be innovative and have lots of cool buildings, but once the games are over they plan on taking some of it out and having this whole process be helpful towards being sustainable.
Another thing that crosses my mind when it comes to the Olympics is the opportunity to brand your country. Brazil will have all eyes across the Nation on them and how they put on this worldwide event can effect the image of the country. That is why I like that they are focused on creating sustainable buildings and remaining true to their culture.
19. Personal Branding
I have been reading articles on the concept of branding and it made me think that not only do companies try and create reliable, trustworthy, and successful brands, but people try and brand themselves in the same way. For example, this blog could be a branding tool that I use in order to get a job later in life. College students search high and low for internships that will hopefully look good on a resume after we graduate. I think that we all in a way create our own brands. I was specifically looking at Lebron James and trying to analyze the brand that he has turned himself into. He went from being dearly loved in Cleveland, to being the bad guy, to now working on his image and ultimate goal of winning the NBA Finals. Lebron James is a brand. He has a clothing line, fan base, and image. Everything that he does is analyzed and beat to a pulp, which puts a lot of pressure on him to always be performing at his best. I am a pretty big Blazer fan so I went to the Blazer vs. Miami Heat game this last week. To be honest, I went to see Lebron James and D-Wade. They put on an incredible show with high flying ally oops, and an unbelievable stat line. After watching Lebron play an incredible game I still had a sour taste in my mouth as to how I felt about him. The way that he carries himself is what bothers me. I think because of the way that he has handled situations in the past and just his overall demeanor are why I am turned off by the Lebron James brand. I own Michael Jordan shirts and totally support his brand, but will never support or follow Lebron James because of my personal feelings towards him as a person and towards his overall image and BRAND.
